Welcome back to another episode of Brewers Babes, a Milwaukee Brewers and Baseball fan podcast for babes by Babes. I'm Aaron. I'm Lisa. We are fast approaching the last month of regular season baseball, and the Brewers have held on to their lead in the division and the best record in baseball. We're what half a game up on the Dodgers now. So holding on to it. We had a grueling 17-day stretch, but closed it out with taking three out of four from the Dodgers, so that felt really good.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that whole West Coast was a pretty good trip. Yeah. Pretty good. So we're well ahead in the division, but as we know, September is a long month. So I'm not making any assumptions yet. Uh I think the postseason is yes, 99% likely for us, barring something crazy to happen. But with all of like the media fellatio that PCA has been given. Oh my god. Uh like he told people to suck his dick and then they're doing it metaphorically now. Yep, you're absolutely right. God. Uh I'm just not gonna discount anything yet.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I agree. I'm also along the same lines, I'm I'm gonna try not to buy any fate-tempting airline tickets over the next couple of weeks, but we'll see, we'll see. I'm very excited for September baseball, though. It's the best, my favorite time of year. It is. But yeah, we do have some good news um getting into what's brewing. We've got some injury updates. Brandon Woodruff doesn't need surgery. Amazing. What happened? They were just like, never mind, it healed itself and you're good.
SPEAKER_05Yes. I don't know if if that means we're gonna see him in the postseason, but I know that the hope of it is now back on the table, and that's a good thing. That's a good thing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's fun. So I guess he's gonna start a five-week throwing program. Murph did say there was a very low possibility that we'd see him in 2026, but how about Brandon Woodruff in the bullpen in the postseason? I would love to see that. That would be really fun. Yeah, that'd be great. So that'd be lovely.
SPEAKER_05I guess he can open up a game for Miz. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_04Wow. All kinds of possibilities. I'm I'm here for it. Sal Freelig was reinstated from the aisle.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, today. He's back. As we speak, he's in City Field. So we're hopefully gonna see him in this series. I'm very excited to see Sal back.
SPEAKER_04Me too. And then another person we might be seeing this series is Abner Uribe, who's been on the 15-day with a strain in his throwing arm, but they are saying that he could be back as early as tomorrow. Really? Yeah. That's great.
SPEAKER_05Look at us all coming together. Yeah, good news all around. I feel like last year they were so, so hot in August, especially Bryce Charang had his incredible August streak. And this year just feels like uh they're good in August, but the hot streak, I hope it starts in a couple of weeks so it can just go through October.
SPEAKER_04I could see it. You know, Yelly's been hitting a little bit better recently in Contreras over his last what six games. He's hitting like 448. Yeah, he's hot. I mean, it's finally hot again. Yeah, so we could see it. We could see a hot streak right at the right time. Would love it. Uh, we did talk a lot about what we've been seeing and what we hope to see. Last night we got together to talk about it with John and Paul on another Brewers podcast, which is always a really, really fun time um and a highlight for us to get to hang out with them. So rather than our regular segments, uh, we were gonna share with the conversation that we had with them last night on here.

SPEAKER_02Yeah. Usually uh people don't know, but it's usually like a 10-second pause.
SPEAKER_01Paul needs to really collect his thoughts, and then he's let Matt go first, and today we're not worried about that. So that's true.
SPEAKER_02Matt cannot be with us. He's on his four four-week spy trip uh where he cannot tell us where he is right now for work. But we have very special guests, so it doesn't matter if he's not here. We miss you, Matt. We love you. But uh the brewer babes are here. And yeah, hello.
SPEAKER_04Hi, hi, thanks for having us.
SPEAKER_02Welcome back. It's it's a time old tradition now, one of our favorite traditions. And I always say, I always want to say welcome, babes, but it still feels weird, even though we're friends. I still feel weird. I almost when I emailed the Zoom link, I almost said babes video, and then that you can't do that because then that's on the computer forever. Just my email said I sent a bunch of people a link to babe's video.
SPEAKER_05Your algorithm changes.
SPEAKER_01You would compete with your other searches, John.
SPEAKER_02That's the main reason. So, how's uh how's your season been so far? How's you your podcast, the brewers, just yeah?
SPEAKER_05Uh let's see. It's been a fucking great baseball season. Yeah. So far. It's been lovely. Aaron and I got to hang out and see each other a couple weekends ago. We went to the Women's Professional Baseball League inaugural weekend. That was really fun. Yeah, in Springfield, Illinois. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So did you have a nice little spot? Now the travel was was now that was fun, as far as I saw.
SPEAKER_05Listen, listen. I don't recommend getting off a train if they tell you that it's gonna be a half hour delay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Uh and walking around because it turns out there's only a 15-minute delay.
SPEAKER_02So it was the same train, like you were just supposed to like get off and get on quickly.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, because the train had some sort something was on the tracks up ahead. So they pushed the train back to the last stop and said, everybody can get off for a while because we're gonna be here for a minute.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So I I did, and I left my stuff on the train and I took a little walk. And then I when I walked back into the station, I saw the train leaving. So I just get the text in all caps saying, All of my stuff is going to St. Louis.

SPEAKER_05Oh jeez.
SPEAKER_02So it went to St. Louis to get to the the ballpark.
SPEAKER_05I think so. I said, Aaron, I I lost my train. I think it did. Like, there was I got on the next train. I talked with a conductor who was very nice. He got me my stuff in the morning. Aaron came back with me, got my stuff in the morning. So like I slept in my clothes. I it was over. It happened. I just don't recommend it. Otherwise, the train ride is really nice. It is from Milwaukee to Springfield is a very lovely ride. If you're not an idiot.
SPEAKER_02Well, I would have already done the same thing. If they would have told me we need a half hour, I would have got off the train as well.
SPEAKER_01Like, who would how did you get your stuff back? Because from my understanding, trains they don't catch up to each other.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, no, I got it back. They're not supposed to.
SPEAKER_01That's usually a problem if they do.
SPEAKER_05The conductor that I talked with, he phoned the guys in the train up in front where my stuff was, and he asked them to pull it off and put it in the next station. And then they were gonna return it through a different train that was coming back in the morning.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_05So they really went all out for me.
SPEAKER_02Wow, that's nice. That's very nice.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But it was a fun experience. We I mean there's a lot of videos. You can go on their account and look at it. Uh, there's lots of great videos and stuff. But yeah, that's very cool that you all got to do that and got to be like content creators for that weekend. That's very cool.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was great baseball too. Man, we saw a really, really good game. It was fantastic. It rained the whole time and everybody stuck it out. It was great. Yeah, awesome time.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's gonna be great baseball to watch during like some sort of lockout or an or something.

SPEAKER_05There's still a league. There's still a baseball league you want to watch.
SPEAKER_01Maybe go into a little bit about the league for people that don't know. Do you know how many teams there are? Like what information can you give on women's professional league?
SPEAKER_04So there's four teams. Uh there's the LA Queens, the uh New York Heights, San Francisco Firebells, and the Boston Hunters.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_04And they are playing their entire season in Springfield. So they're all in the same field. Uh, it's a couple games a week, and then there will be a two-week long postseason in October.
SPEAKER_02Oh, nice. Okay. So they'll start later, but they'll still follow the same bait, yeah, baseball season, baseball season, not be like off or okay.
SPEAKER_05I think it's a little sooner because they're all over halfway through their season already. So I think it starts at the end of September, or maybe because they get a break. I don't know. It's pretty wonderful. They have some former MLB managers and players for these teams. The baseball is pretty good. Seven innings because they have a lot of two-way players, a lot of three-way players. Oh, okay. Uh, so it's kind of fun. You know, you see somebody on the mound and then you see them out in left field a couple of innings later. Uh, you see them at bat, so it's a little bit different. They can use aluminum, they can use aluminum bats too, which is it's fun.
SPEAKER_02Did you see so they were both? Were they both, or they was it mostly aluminum?
SPEAKER_05Mostly aluminum, yeah. There was one or two we did see use a wooden bat, but I mean, if you have the choice to use aluminum, you're probably gonna use it. So yeah, they still they have to get their feet under them a little bit more yet. I think they got some kinks to work out, just like any any league starting up would. Right, yeah. But it's the first season. Yeah, I'm just really happy women's baseball is here. It's yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, since it's in that hub, is it is there like areas that are designated? Like, are there like bars working in with them or like other areas that you can explore as part of the league? I know just I just didn't know if there's like a whole thing they're setting up.
SPEAKER_05We can go to Dottie's and get a get a coffee while we slow. Oh no. Try to get a coffee at a slot machine place. That was fun. Nice. No, there's not. There's just like a lot of feral cats around. That would be awesome.
SPEAKER_04They did have a culverse though, which is exciting for me because they don't have them where I am. So like we when we pulled into the into the city, I was like, fuck yeah, culvers.
SPEAKER_02So it is it's more of like a small town like setup, really? Oh yeah. So are they all just put into like hotels nearby, or how do they do that? Like with the players, you mean? Do you know?
SPEAKER_05Or some of them have housing, some of them commute, you know, some of them have families and stuff, so some of them are commuting and housing and uh they don't have a supporter housing or anything like that, but they do get put up during the games when there's weeks. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but like I said, still got some kinks to work out. Oh no, that's fine. Springfield is the capital, so we thought it was gonna be a little more uh yeah, yeah, there's not much outside of Chicago and Illinois.
SPEAKER_03Oh no, no, no.
SPEAKER_02So that's that is prime real estate. If you have a new league forming, get some businesses over there, build a build a brewery and just make money. Does they build something for that?
SPEAKER_01For my next job.
SPEAKER_05Oh, do it, Paul. What are you gonna call your brewery?
SPEAKER_01I was gonna ask the same thing. That you put me on the spot too much.
SPEAKER_05Is that what it's called?
SPEAKER_01Another another brewer.
SPEAKER_04Another brewer.
SPEAKER_02Oh the the brewer, like we're in Illinois, and none of our team names are named brewer.
SPEAKER_01Well, people will make the train ride down from Milwaukee.
SPEAKER_02That's true. How are my hunters doing? I'm a I've been a diehard hunters fan since they started. So how are they doing?
SPEAKER_05I feel like they have the right fan base for how they're doing right now. So they're you know, used to disappointment, used to they did fire their manager after what two games? Two or three games. Really? Yeah. Wow.
SPEAKER_01Did not like the culture that they brought in already.
SPEAKER_05I think so. I think that was that was part of it. But they got Jamil. We got, yeah. They got Jamil Weeks now, former MLB player who's managing them. Yeah. So he actually just got the first ejection in WPPL history.
SPEAKER_01Nice. Here we go.
SPEAKER_05That was fun.
SPEAKER_01Rumor is uh Craig Council's eyeing that job.
SPEAKER_02As soon as someone trains a weeks, I gotta jump ship. So for the for major league baseball games, how have you been? Uh, how have your games been? What have you attended? What have you seen? What have you liked so far this year that's new or different?
SPEAKER_04I don't get to go to a lot of games. I went to two Rockies games. That was fun in Denver.
SPEAKER_02How was that? Because I have is that a must see?
SPEAKER_04It was great. The ballpark is beautiful. Um, it was really expensive because I went fourth of July week. So my tickets were like $90 a piece, and apparently the rest of the season they're like $11. So, but there were fireworks, but it was sold out, and it was just like shitloads of home runs and hits and stuff. I saw the Giants, got to see Willie, so that was fun. Nice, nice.
SPEAKER_02Now, does uh elevation mess with you there at all or at the game?
SPEAKER_04Or it took me like three or four days to be like, why am I so winded? Yeah, God, I'm winded all the time. I was like, Oh, right, there's no air. Aside from that. Yeah, it was fun. It was great. It was real good. This is a really nice ballpark.
SPEAKER_02Lisa, I have to I have very uh important question to ask you. Have you tried the margarita smoothie yet?
SPEAKER_05No, but I've seen it everywhere. People are really into it. I'm not even sure where to get it.
SPEAKER_02It's 109.
SPEAKER_05Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02I already have it memorized.
SPEAKER_05Have you had it? I've had it twice.
SPEAKER_02I actually apparently I luckily had the test day of it. I went for the alumni game, and they actually had it set up behind the bleachers uh before they actually had the official stand. So I got like one of the first ones they gave out, uh, and it was it's fantastic. And then they had the stand where I went uh August 8th. Uh I was there with Paul. And so, but then that was in one in section 109 where it's right at the at the baseline, and then you have to walk stand in line all the way up the ramp. So I was in line for maybe 40 minutes. I missed the man uh the good national anthem. Who was it? The was it the who did the drum? The drill playing guy.
SPEAKER_04Oh, the guy from the violent femmes. Violent femmes. So I missed that. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then there was no airflow, so I'm just we're all just sweating on the ramp going up to the second level as we're standing in line. One lady completely, so they give you a little plastic uh martini glass thing, and one lady only grabbed it by the bottom, and as soon as she turned around, a whole thing spilled. What are you doing? What do you that's yeah, it's amateur, amateur, amateur, two hands, yeah. But they're fantastic because it lasts a couple innings, you get a little spoon, so it's like you can drink it, you eat it like ice cream. It's uh the best part.
SPEAKER_01No, don't uh John would not share his with mine. No, you didn't get your own? No, well, we were in section like what 409?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. So I had to like go run to those stairs in the middle and then go all the way down like the little stairs, and then well, John John's wife wanted one, so he I do commend him for toughing it out for yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, I was not as kind.
SPEAKER_02Either were the guys behind us who didn't like that I had one, and then they said they were gonna go smoke and never returned.

SPEAKER_03It was very weird.
SPEAKER_05Well, I'll have to uh we're going to a game on next Saturday, so I'll have to see if I can grab one then.
SPEAKER_02Yes, it looks good. It's great.
SPEAKER_05I'm sorry, you don't even get to taste it.
SPEAKER_02To be fair though, it it was half melted by the time I got away all the way up there because it was so hot that day, too. So like it was one of those things where you just downed it before it went everywhere.
SPEAKER_05So it's just like it's just tequila ice cream.
SPEAKER_02Basically.
SPEAKER_05Is that really what it is? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Can't go wrong. Sold.
SPEAKER_02No, no, and it's the same. It's only like 18 bucks, so it's the same price as getting like a a beer at the craft brewery thing on the second level. So it's not like it's outrageous.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I remember you were like, yeah, it was only $18.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but then I I I balance it because then I got a five dollar Hams up there, so it like balances out. So on average, my drinks are around $12. That's you know, yeah.
SPEAKER_05The way to do it. Way to way to go.
SPEAKER_01Smart, economical.
SPEAKER_04Is that bardice night? Did you guys love the bardice set?
SPEAKER_02Man, or is it cool? It's cool, but it's it was uh it they just gave you a a bag, like they didn't even have a fancy box or anything. Yeah, it was well, yeah, it was just in the cup and it was surrounded by plastic, and they just kept handing like I I guess it's not a big deal, it's saving cardboard, but I thought like usually they had plastic, yeah. Yeah, I thought they would have like a little box of it or like something that came in, they're just like take them.
SPEAKER_01Well, then like if you didn't take the dice out, like the dice could have fallen out, like they were they were just kind of loose in there. Yeah, so luckily I don't think we lost any dice, but have you played it yet? No, I have not. No, I have not. I haven't had the opportunity.
SPEAKER_05I feel like you need a group of people or yeah, you can't play bar dice bigger to take it to a ticket party.
SPEAKER_02714 21 with myself. I get to take it, pay for it, and take it.
SPEAKER_01I've uh I've won several rounds of bar dice. Yes, hammered.
SPEAKER_02Uh so do you all watch the Little League game uh from the Brewers Braves?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yes.
SPEAKER_02How did you think about that? Because I I it has it been going for a couple of years. That's the first one I've watched.
SPEAKER_04It's the first one that I've known about, but maybe that's just because the Brewers were involved.
SPEAKER_05I listened to it because we don't have ESPN. Oh, well, neither do I, but I heard it.
SPEAKER_02I watched the second half, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I was Paul, did you watch the whole thing? Yeah, it's cool. Like it just to have like the little leaguers there, and it seems like everybody it's it's almost kind of like an all-star game. I did think they well, they didn't have ABS, the ABS challenges, and uh they had replay though, which was so you yeah, they have ABS?
SPEAKER_05No, they didn't, no, they don't have it in the park. We're still in a pennant race, right?
SPEAKER_02Yes, and and the fact that if we were at a home game, we would have walked it off with that control's home run.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and that's I was also thinking that, yeah. I it I think getting them having them play obviously not a home game as a game that counted as a home game kind of hurt the Brewers, but uh you know I'm glad I'm glad they got to be a part of it. They they won't have to do it again for a while, like they'll pick other teams, but it would you know it it was cool that they got to participate in it, and they had interviewed uh Logan Henderson was on the broadcast for a little bit and just got to talk about his experience as a little leaguer and answer some questions and stuff like that, which I thought was cool.
SPEAKER_02So yeah. And content-wise, that it was great. Like that the lead up of it, like there is so many good clips and the players posting stuff and the interviews. That's something I feel like MLB could have completely ruined that, and somehow they didn't get in their own way on that one. Like, I was very shocked how good the content was with you know, like Ms. on the bus interviewing and the players going in and and the plane landing and them having cameras ready to go. I feel like they just they they can never do do it well, and they they they never but maybe that was ESPN and not Major League Baseball that was doing all that.
SPEAKER_05So well, also the Brewer social team, those pictures of all the people, all the players as kids.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, so cute. So so cute. Yeah, the social team is killing it.
SPEAKER_05They're just except did you guys see Jake Bowers? It's like a grainy black and white close-up of his face, and he looks kind of sad in it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I thought you were gonna say Gary Sanchez. I know. Oh Sanchez looked like 30. I was like, they couldn't find uh a child picture of him.
SPEAKER_02And Bowers is only 30, so why yeah, why don't you have access to pictures of him as a child? Like yeah, he got discovered.
SPEAKER_01It's not like he's from like Appalachian.
SPEAKER_05Not Amish. Yeah, yeah. What if he is? What if Jake Bowers is secretly Amish?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's not his name. That is his DPL.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01They were the rare Amish family that lived in uh Southern California. Yeah, Orange County Amish. They're popular.
SPEAKER_05Oh, I'd watch that show.
SPEAKER_02Oh, for sure.
SPEAKER_05You know what? We missed the bar dice. We got there too late, so we missed getting the bardice. I also missed the Hank Aaron replica jersey.
SPEAKER_04Oh, dang.
SPEAKER_05I feel like people are just going earlier and earlier. Those replica jerseys are very cool because we're still showing up at the same time, but we're not getting the swag anymore. Dude, we're gonna start going earlier.
SPEAKER_04The the brewer's giveaways are amazing. I mean, there's they're so good. The Nats have a lot of really cool ones, but they all require a special ticket. Like they had a like a hockey jersey and a soccer jersey and all this stuff. Um, a lot of like uh City Connect stuff that was really cool, but they all required a special ticket, and the brewers have like all like I bought a I gotta guess who said on eBay because I wanted it so bad. Like I went and bought one.
SPEAKER_02The brewer's one?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Most yeah, I there was one like an hour away, and I'm like, I'm not wasting $100 on gas just for this this guess who game that's probably gonna break in a year once I try it.
SPEAKER_05It's so fun though. Lisa, we gotta play it still. We do. We got two of them, so I'm gonna uh uh maybe try to sell one for like four hundred dollars next year. Okay, see if I can make a big profit. Because that's what people are doing. You're just seeing that shit. Like I saw one on Facebook Marketplace for 70 bucks. Like, are you crazy? Nobody's buying it for that. I paid 20 for mine.
SPEAKER_02I bought it. I bought one for 20. Yeah, so the dice is for 60, but yeah, we didn't.
SPEAKER_04The dice are cool, the cribbage board was cool. I mean, all this all the giveaways are awesome. The cribbage was fair.
SPEAKER_05Like that was yeah, that was a the next one that I'm really excited about is the Jackson Churio cereal. The bowl cheerable. Yes, man, that looks so cool. Damn it.
SPEAKER_04Why don't I live in Milwaukee? I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's gonna be a hard one not to buy off the yeah, secondary when it's on. But yeah, we we went we went in super early. Like we yeah, because we we tailgated before, but like we had a plan to be like we're meeting at three, we're going to the park, and then we're getting in at 4 30. Quick, we are now like or by five, we are in the park, so we can grab that.
SPEAKER_01But John was serious about the dice. Yeah, that was the whole reason we went. Well, also to see the the number one brewers.
SPEAKER_02Well, no, I know, and it was to hang out. It was like our old college like get together. There was five or six couples that we used to go all the time, and so that's what it was our excuse to get together, playing bar days together.
SPEAKER_05Is that the game that I texted you guys and asked if you were gonna go to Tarps Off? Did you make it up there?
SPEAKER_01No, it was it was right near us, though.
SPEAKER_02It was near us. It was two sections over. We we did not go. I'm so sorry.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we didn't.
SPEAKER_05Next time you regret it, Paul. That sounds regretful.
SPEAKER_01Uh well, there were some some older gentlemen going up there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's a young man's game. Like it's a that's a young man's game that tarps off. Maybe 20 years ago. Yeah, let the youths have their fun.
SPEAKER_04Maybe a couple more margarita smoothies than you would have been up there. Right. Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_01Maybe at least a sip, I would have known.
SPEAKER_02It really is a weird thing. It's like it is just like joining a hive mind when you watch it, because it really is just the same guy. It's like the same looking person coming up the steps and then taking their shirt off as they go up the table. It's very weird. It's like a weird, it's like they're joining the Borg or some kind of like weird pod people where they like, it's the same looking guy with like the curly shaped part head, and they go up there and they take the shirt off the same step, and then they all wave.

Because I don't feel like a lot of those people actually know what's going on in in the game a lot, or like no baseball etiquette, right? Like when you go, like, why are you chanting this person's name right now?

SPEAKER_02I I always forget that the soccer fans are at a next level because I was watching the Chelsea game today, and like we always talk about in baseball. People are like, oh, well, people are booing Yelich, like, let's give him a standing ovation, don't boo the players. And today in Chelsea, uh, one of the players who subbed in recently said that he would prefer another team like during his soccer career, just not now, but later. And as soon as he was subbed on, the whole stadium booed him. I'm like, that is next level. You are just full on screaming at your players. They like they are they are next level of.
SPEAKER_05I went to the uh I went to the World Cup in 2010 in uh South Africa, and that was the Vuvazela year. That was the year that the Vuvazela made its made its mark.

SPEAKER_02That was like the lowest point, I feel like it was like trade deadline going to the Padres series. It was just like that has been the low point. I've been after like the Mariners, obviously, this has been way better, and it's more how we're playing, how we hit played during the year. That was stuff. If that was our lull, thank good. SPEAKER_01I thought that was probably the most embarrassing part for the Mariners was like it just showed because because they dropped several easy like uh the first baseman dropped the ball, Naylor dropped the ball on a double play, and that that kept the inning going. And the just easy plays that they were missing, and then the throw it just to lose track of the outside. Yes, it was a long inning, but yeah, just I don't know. That was why I I was kind of hoping we would sweep them because they're a team that's clearly kind of checked out, even though they took care of the Cubs this this weekend. Yeah, they walked them off, but um I'm glad I'm thankful for that. But yeah, after the 22-0 game, I was kind of hoping for a sweep, but that's just getting greedy, but series is good.
SPEAKER_02But that was good vibes, like that's the most the like very good vibes from all around. Just like you need we we haven't done that like all year. It's just a yeah, absolute blowout, just everything we were hitting, and yeah, we kind of carried that on. I just yeah, but I think it's just because when we watch the Sunday game where then they suck again in runners in scoring position, you just have to hope. We just you know it's that hope that that's not the team for playoffs. You hope it's the first two games and not yeah, but then again, it wasn't Brewers Baseball. Uh, we weren't hitting with runners' scoring position and our bullpen. So if those two things don't happen, that this team can't doesn't win.
SPEAKER_01The main thing that I look for, I think what you know, more winning and losing is is like building the good good habits, like the attention to detail. When that's when I get frustrated, is when I start to see those things kind of slip. Yeah, and and yeah, hitting with runners in scoring position, that's part of it. It's that you're just not focused sometimes. If you have a runner on third with less than two outs and you you strike out or you don't make a productive out, at least that's what good teams do is that they they focus on those types of things, they control the control the things they can control. And the Brewers do have done that a lot this year, but you it's more about the consistency of it and carrying that on into late September and October.
SPEAKER_04How about uh how about Jake Bowers at bats the other day? It's like two 12 pitch at bats, one of them was a walk, and the other one ended up being a fucking home run. Like was Saturday?
SPEAKER_02That was insane to watch.
SPEAKER_04I couldn't believe it. That was great. Some of the the plate discipline has improved so much for people like Jackson Churio. Luis Lara is already so good at it. Contreras finally finding his bat has been huge.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, if him and Yellowish can just do a little better, then we're fine. Then they get and Lara can keep hitting. My my only worry right now is like Lara and Pratt in the playoffs because it just seems like we're we're on that cycle where we're bringing these young guys up, and that's my only worry because Tarang sucked his first year in the playoffs. Like Freelick wasn't great, Ortiz wasn't great. Like the uh those these young guys just haven't had those games. I mean, Mitchell had the home run, Freelick had the home run, but besides that, a lot of strikeouts, a lot of wasted outs. That's my only worry is is the rookies come playoff time.
SPEAKER_04But do you think do you think if Sal gets healthy in the next couple weeks, um that they'll put him back in right and send Lara down? I hope not. I guess you know what I mean. It depends on Mitchell too, right? Lockridge is still up, too.
SPEAKER_02Did they call him back up? Oh no, they did they sent him down, didn't they? They sent the Lockridge went back went down because they wanted more infielders, yeah, when Pratt came up.

Dude is fucking carrying the team. We would not be where we are at all without Jake Bowers' offense. Like we wouldn't, yeah, we wouldn't be. He's carrying the whole lot, and I did not expect that. I think maybe Lisa might have predicted it, but I didn't.
SPEAKER_02So Jake Bowers. Someone had brought up that they said before the season as like a weird prediction, like that I asked before our first episode, that someone said that Bowers and Vaughn would have like a combined like plus two, one like war, and we're like, ha ha ha ha. And then like it's true.
SPEAKER_05Like they think he just it completely came true that those guys have been destroying it the whole year, which absolutely Bowers is one of those guys where when he gets consistent A-Bs, he does really great. And that's that's been true his whole career with the Brewers, just like giving him more and more chances. I think I don't think he's necessarily gotten better this year. I think he's gotten more of a chance to show how good he is.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think you're right. I agree. I remember they had an article right before the season two where they're like, Oh, well, like what is your approach this year? He goes, This year I finally just relaxed. Like I wasn't like I wasn't trying as hard as I can to get those A B's to try my best. Like, I'm just gonna go in and play baseball, and that's insane. For a 30-year-old to just break out is so amazing. Like be on the best team in baseball.

SPEAKER_01But just because you know, he I think he has it has gotten a lot better as well. Like to to Lisa's point, they're come up in the playoffs when he's been called upon. He's hitting three sixteen in 20 playoff uh plate appearances. Which is phenomenal. Over a thousand eight OPS in the playoffs. So he's he's shown that he can be a clutch hitter. And but now he's just shown that he can be that clutch bat, that power bat that they've needed. Probably could use some more power, but from the rest of the lineup. But Bowers is, I mean, you gotta love his story too. He's been cast aside by multiple organizations, and he he's just kept a positive attitude about it. And the brewers have given him a real chance. Here he is 30, 30 years old now, and he's a huge part of the offense. Maybe some would argue the biggest biggest bat that they have in the lineup. So I agree with with Aaron that Bowers is my favorite brewer right now. Look at that. Two and two. Adorable.

And like I love them, but uh my regular stress dreams, which is just my regular dreams, all my dreams are stress dreams, they are all getting from point A to point B and having to do all this bullshit in between. Yeah. And that's all these books are is nothing but that. And so I read them and I'm like, all right, and then I go to bed, and like my stress dreams are like elevated. It's it's really the sleep is awful. So I need to I need a new book, new recommendations if anybody has something a little calmer would be good. But they are but they are excellent, highly recommend.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I remember like ruh there was like a deal for like it was like a five-dollar Kindle thing right before it blew up. I just remember it if for like before it just got huge, and I'm I'm sad I didn't I didn't do that because I heard I'm I heard I'd probably enjoy them and a lot of people like them, but yeah, I just haven't gotten into them yet. Uh yeah, I'll go. Oh, sure. Uh I uh Ted Lasso's back, so I'm really enjoying that. I I love that show to pieces. Also, uh I it was a great, I don't know, it was just like the movie we're in. So like we watched the first episode of the Ted Lasso that came back, and then the first episode of the new Sunny season. And oh yeah, boy, did that just chit like we uh meanwhile? If we were like we were different people, like it just made us better. Like Ted Lasso is the perfect appetizer for always sunny. So, like you have just like this nice niss comedy, we're just like giggling at the silliness, and then just batshit insanity. Like, it's just it's the it is the perfect combination of like a palate cleanser and then girls' heads falling off. Like, that is just like you that is it was such a great thing. Like, we both like after we went, I'm in such a good mood. That was great, like that was just such a great time to sit there, and that just it made me very happy just to watch pure comedy again by two really good comedies. Like, we just don't have enough comedy movies, not enough comedy shows. We just need we need more, we need more laughing.
SPEAKER_01That might be a good transition into what I watched recently. I was not gonna say this, but okay, because it might change how everyone look views me, is but uh uh it's on Netflix, and I was like, Well, I haven't I don't know if I've seen this movie the whole way through, so I decided to watch it, and it's it's Schindler's List, which is not is not a great feel feel-good movie. Have you had you never seen it? I don't think I've seen it the whole way through. It's a long movie, right? Like it's three hours.
SPEAKER_02I'm pretty sure every year in high school they showed it during history class. My teachers didn't, I and I'm glad they didn't.
SPEAKER_05Did you guys have the same teachers?
SPEAKER_01So like I said, in addition to always sunny, and I watched uh Rory Rory Scovel, his stand-up on uh which it which is hilarious. So I had to watch those things to get me out of, but yeah, I don't recommend just like dabbling in the Schindler's List part on that video.
SPEAKER_02I mean it's great, but yeah, it's brutal.
SPEAKER_01It's just absolutely yeah, it's there's nothing to to feel good about after that.
SPEAKER_02So were you just on a Liam Neeson kick and you thought he was gonna be no?
SPEAKER_01I just had some time on my hands and just I'm glad I didn't I'm I'm glad I didn't sit down and watch it in one sitting. That's just be exhausting, but I'll talk about the other the other things that I've watched which are comedies. But the Roy Rory Scovell, I if you have you as a comedian, John, you if you've seen him, like it I I think he's hilarious.
SPEAKER_02Oh, he's like top ten of all time, in my opinion. Yeah, like his he did a crowd work special, just like uh he it's one of those where you can just put on and you're gonna laugh.
SPEAKER_01Like it's just yeah, he's just yeah, it's just like it's so literal, and it's just that I I think just the the way he like puts things like that that you're thinking, I think is just is pretty pretty spot on. So I've watched a couple of his specials reached recently, and then um, yeah, I'm a huge always sunny fan as well. So I needed needed those.
SPEAKER_05Lisa, not Schindler's List.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Although kudos to you, that is a brutal movie. I'm going with fake brutality because I've also been reading the Dungeon Crawler Carl books, which is you know also like about genocide and other things. I guess it's brutal in its own way. But I'm on book six, it is really good. I don't have the stress dreams, um, but I just I don't sleep deep enough to dream, I don't think. So it's like that's a whole other thing. We're doing great, Lisa. Right, we're great.
SPEAKER_02Everything's fine, and we're all happy, we're all good with something going on. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, but the other book that I'm reading is one that I've read before, and Aaron, you've read it before too, I think. It's The Game by John Pissar. So good. I'm rereading it. It's about uh the 1992 baseball season, like difference between how like Bud Sealig is thinking about what's going on in baseball and their fight with the players' union, and how Don Fair, the who was the union leader at the time, is like negotiating all this stuff, and how George Steinbrenner is just figuring out what TV rights look like, and there's all this components in it that include Milwaukee and include the Brewers because it's talks about Miller Park being built and what like the legislative process was like for that and how much Bud Sealag influenced that, and then how that became a larger part of the conversation with the union and you know how they almost canceled the World Series. And so it's a long book, but it's really well written, very interesting, totally different thing from Dungeon Curler Carl. Man, I should have kind of like rotate between them.
SPEAKER_02And what was it? Who's it by?
SPEAKER_05It's by John Pessa. It's called The Game. It's it's fascinating. It's it's so so interesting. Yeah, and it feels like a lot, it feels apropos for what's happening now. Although I don't think there's anything comparable to what's happening with the Dodgers insurance scandal stuff. Maybe he'll write a maybe he'll write a book about this next year.
SPEAKER_02Good oh, good lord, let something happen to them. Uh no, I just have them. I want them to go bankrupt and have to release Otani. I don't that whatever. That's that's messed up. It's really messed up, and it's just so funny. I I know it's not his fault, but the way that people like dragged Jeff Passon this week that like he had that whole article in February about like no one does it better than the Dodgers and people need to do it. And then now it's just like, yeah, because they were committing insurance fraud. That's why they can do it, because they use their TV deal to pay themselves and not put it in the insane, absolutely insane. What is happening? And the fact that the brewers have been able to compete during these shenanigans uh is very good. And just uh let's just win a world series before this all happens. Let's just do that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, uh yeah.
SPEAKER_02How about that? That'd be nice. Yeah, yeah. Make my life. How about that? Make me happy. Do you think uh because I honestly to me I don't I don't I don't know how to do it. Do you all think there's gonna be a lock? I mean, are is there not gonna be baseball next year?
SPEAKER_01I think if I think if the the Dodgers win again, there's a very strong chance that there's gonna be a lockout.
SPEAKER_02I just feel like they gotta they gotta be able to work. I mean it's that's that's so much money on the table and all these players, and uh yeah, I don't know how they're gonna meet that.
SPEAKER_05I I just want people to know the difference between a lockout and a strike. I feel like that's half the battle for a lot of this. So um I don't know. I hope not, but if there is, there's always women's baseball.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah. That's that'll be its opportunity to take off.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I suppose it would be minor league baseball too, because they operate under a different CBA.
SPEAKER_02Oh, really? Okay.
SPEAKER_04So their their contract isn't up yet. Let's hope for the best.
SPEAKER_02Um, I was gonna say just because I I got uh I didn't read for a very long time. Uh just the last year and a half, I got very into it. Like where I would read maybe one or two books a year. I'm already on 26 this year. I'm blowing through stuff. Um, my one recommendation for a book, uh, I might have said this before, but it's called What We Can Know by Ian U McEwen. It was one of my favorite books for like this whole stretch that I've gotten back into books. I think it was on a Jessel Nick list. Uh, a couple other people I saw, I think it was on Obama's list as well last year. Just incredible. Just one of those books that hit me really well. It's about it's in the future. Uh the world is dying of climate change. And so basically, what has happened is it there's this famous dinner that this poet did where it was like 12 people at his estate, and apparently it was called like the the most famous dinner ever. And he made this poem for his then wife. And so it's this search uh of these people and this couple in the future trying to find the poem uh at his property, and they go all over the place. Uh, but the cool part about the book is that halfway through the book, uh, it switches narratives to something else, and that's the rest of the book, and it completely changes everything that you've been following. And that just it made me happy that it was so surprising.
SPEAKER_01And well, you lost the rest of our listening basis. I sure did.
SPEAKER_02Yes, uh, it's uh but it's the future.
SPEAKER_01That's that's one of their bugaboos.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's a very it's a very good look at the future and a legacy that you make and how things pass on, because as we're seeing now for you know, our social media landscape about how things are twisted so quickly and changed, and a year later they look differently. And people that you know things we get upset about today will look back in six months and realize what the fuck were we yelling and arguing about? It didn't matter. I'm just talking to myself about that, but get trying to get better every day. Uh, any final thoughts about the Brewers things? How what you're hoping for? What what do we want? World Series.
SPEAKER_04World series. I don't really want to play the Cubs in the postseason again. No, I don't really want to I don't really want to go through that emotionally that was no, I don't want to do that again.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I agree. Especially the first, like it was the ultimate roller coaster of like dominated the first two games, and then as soon as you got to Wrigley, you saw the vibes were not great, and then just uh that game. I mean, game five was the best, but I don't want to have to go through that again.
SPEAKER_04No, uh-uh.
SPEAKER_02Of sitting sitting at uh a bar in Green Bay just doing this within public, just hoping some just hoping for home runs and pitches and so if we don't play the cubs, if it happen postseason happens today, it'd be the Cubs or the Phillies.
SPEAKER_05Right. That'd be in the wild card, right? Yeah, I yes, even though the Phillies are on a super hot streak right now. They're going for they're like 10th in a row. Yep. Something like that. I'd still much rather have Philly fans come here. Yes. Remember last year a Cubs fan tried to steal my scorebook? Yep. Really?
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_05It was messed up.
SPEAKER_02They're just the worst.
SPEAKER_05So yeah. Beat the Phillies in the post.
SPEAKER_02No, give me the Phillies all day. I like their fans, are all the interactions I've had with Philly fans online have been fun. They're crazy, but they're very fun.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And no one hates their team more than Philly fans. That's the best part. Like you could, you know all their flaws because they have uh yeah, they can't hit with runners in scoring position either. That's a huge problem for them this year. They're bullpen shaky. So get give me the Phillies. I mean, they might they're gonna hit some bombs, and they're a decent team, but they're not perfect. They're they have some serious flaws.
