Welcome back to another episode of Brewers Babes, a Milwaukee Brewers and Baseball fan podcast for babes by babes. I'm Aaron. I'm Lisa. We're headed into September. Is it Murph Tember? Maybe. Murphtober. Murphtober. We'll wait till Murphtober. Going into September, still the best team in baseball with 89 total wins and a healthy eighth game lead over the Cubs in the NL Central. We haven't talked in a while, like just me and you, about Brewers baseball. Yeah, it's been a minute. We have a lot to talk about. Yeah, we do. We do.
SPEAKER_00And this is our 75th episode. Hey, cheers. So cheers to that. 75th. Wow. Can you believe that? No, I really can't. But it's, you know what? I'm ready for 75 more. I'll do this with you so the brewers don't exist anymore. It's so fun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's been awesome. That's it's wild to think that we've been doing this for so long. I like tell people, I'm like, yeah, it's just this little project. We've been at it for like four whole seasons. And I was talking to somebody yesterday about it. And I'm like, yeah, sometimes I'm like, this is a little bit like work. But then I'm like, every time I sit down and just talk to Lisa about baseball for an hour and a half, like a couple times a month, that's always the highlight of my week. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00It's so much fun. Yeah. And especially when you have a team that's always winning, that does help.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's true. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00You know what though, if if it ever doesn't happen, like we're gonna like last year in the postseason, the year before in the postseason, I needed to decompress. That's true. Reflect, and I wouldn't have been able to do it without you. So happy 75th. Yeah, happy 75th. We do have some ideas for the 100th anniversary. We want to have really like a special guest or special guests. And so we have this list, like a pipe dream list of special guests we have. But if anybody has any ideas for people who might not already be on that list, some of them are pretty absurd, but whatever. Like, let us know.
SPEAKER_01If you know Brent Suter, how to get a hold of him, not through cameo. Let us know. He's number one, number one on the list. Love that. I'm not good at talking to people. I'm really bad at talking to people that I admire too. Like, I'm just terrible at it. Like a couple of years ago, I went to see my favorite band, Why? The guy's name is Yoni Wolf. And he was working at his own merch table and nobody was around. And I was like, I bought a record from him, and I was just like, thanks for the music.
SPEAKER_02And then I ran away.
SPEAKER_00So I'm like, hey Brent, thanks for the baseball. Thanks for the baseball. Thanks for the baseball. Well, you know, we might see him in the post because he's a brave now.
SPEAKER_01That's true.
SPEAKER_00So maybe, maybe he'll be back. But yeah, what do you want to what do you want to talk about, Brewers Wise? Since we haven't talked to each other for quite a while, we are in the middle of a Cubs series right now. We're riding high in a well, a brewer's win against Cubs. What a game. What a game.
SPEAKER_01Luis Lara and Jackson Cherio. Man. Those catches. Those catches, yes, that's what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_00I heard somebody's call him Air Lara. Like Airborne.
SPEAKER_01I love how him and Sal have like the same style. I mean, they both leap when it's like obviously he needed a leap to catch that one today, which I don't think it was going to be a home run, but it would have been an extra base hit for sure. For sure. But like you always see Sal and the other guys make fun of him. Like you really didn't have to jump to get that, you know. And I feel like I see Lara making the exact same plays. It's it's cool to have a similar style out in right field.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's nice, especially because Sal is not at his full self. And I haven't wanted to talk about it. I'm like, let me just give him some time. Let's figure it out. Like, I don't want to put too many eyes on him or like put him under the microscope or anything. So I'm I would like to leave that alone. Okay.
SPEAKER_01All right. Well, I won't ask you about it then.
SPEAKER_00I want to I'm freaking out.

SPEAKER_01It is nice to see him back. It was nice. You know, he came back, first came back. He was in the leadoff spot, had a couple of hits that night. Yeah. So that was good. He's got this intensity to him now, too.
SPEAKER_00Like his eyes are like form a hole in you. I was thinking the same thing. Yep. I I told Jamie, I was like, is he evil Sal? Because he's got like this like crazy, you know, a little evil look, you know? Evil Sal. Has he been replaced? Get a little goatee, like community goatee. But I don't know. I hope he comes back to his true self really soon. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You know, I didn't even realize, I should have realized, but we we're back in the in a long stretch of games with no day out. We had 17 in July and August, and now we're in the middle of a 16 game streak. So like I know from the games that we've watched lately and from the tone of our group chat, people are feeling very frustrated. The pitching has been the starting pitching has been like not what we're used to, and that's scary, I think is the word I would use for that. And then the offense has just been like really frustrating as usual. You know, it's either all the way on or it's nothing, you know, there's no in between. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think we've had a couple of bad games offensive-wise, but I'm really I'm really happy with the way the offense is playing right now. It's like it's Bruce Baseball to its core. And I think like the teams that we've been watching, the Reds, the Rangers, and the and the Cubs too, to a lesser extent, are all playing versions of Milwaukee baseball. And I think I think clubs are gonna start to be doing this more and more and more because they see that it it makes a winning team. Yeah. So like we were watching a game, I remember I forget which game it was in the Rangers series, and I was like, why are they playing like the Brewers? Like they're doing all the things. And I think that if there's a season next season, which I think there will be, that we're gonna be seeing a lot more teams playing this kind of ball, which I'm I'm here for. And as for pitching, well, Miz had a bad game. I think we'll probably talk about that later. Logan Henderson can do whatever he wants, like it's fine. I'll I love that guy. You know, he won our hearts when he was like, Thank you for not trading me because I'm a brewer.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, man, he's so good, so good. But like Harrison has been Harrison was so fucking good, yeah. All the way up until like a couple weeks ago, and I was like, boom, boom, boom, we're good. We got Ms. Henderson Harrison, what next? Like, do your worst, you know? And like, I don't know what's happened with him. And Miz, like, it's not that he's been bad, he just hasn't been the absolute best pitcher in the entire fucking world the last couple times we've seen him. Do you know what I mean? Like, he's had average games, like he gave up three runs. Like, yeah, that's not you know, but like people are freaking out. I mean, like, on the on the internet, people are like, oh man, if he can't, if he if he pitches like that from now on, that there goes their World Series chances. I'm like, dude, he gave up three runs once.
SPEAKER_00Like, right, calm down, you know? It's fine. Yeah, Miz, I think, so let's talk about him later. Harrison, you know, he came back, his command is gone. His VL is down a little bit, we noticed, but I don't think that's that big of a deal. But that game against the Reds, he was well, first he was so sweaty, like he was so sweaty, and he was so in his head, and it was because the game before that he had pitched, he was tipping, they thought, and so he was like in his head thinking about not how to not tip his pitches, and he let he let what like three guys stole second off him on a left. So the post-game, they asked Murph, like, what's going on with Kyle Harrison? Is it like a mental issue? Is it a physical issue? Is he still injured? What's happening? His release point is off, you know, he just he doesn't have it. And Murph is like, it's a confidence thing. It's just the kid needs to get his confidence back because he's shaken from that game. And he was clearly so in his head. So I think I don't know if that's a best case scenario or a worst case scenario for a pitcher. I don't know how hard it is for a pitcher to get out of their own head, but I think if anybody can do it for them, Murphy and the pitching lab can. Yeah. So I think I'm okay. I also think Aaron, I also think he needs to grow a mustache. Okay.

SPEAKER_01Couldn't hurt. Couldn't hurt. Couldn't hurt. You know what's funny is I've my response to people complaining about the pitching lately, is I'm like, it's really hot. Like it's so hot out. I'm like, the guys aren't doing that good. It's really fucking hot. It's August. We haven't had a break in 14 games. Like, they're tired. I think I said this last time we talked on, like, it's hot out and they're tired. And this is what this is what August is like, you know. I mean, I know we're in September now, but it's like, Jesus Christ, we didn't get to see, like, this is the this is more starts than Miz has ever gone in a season. You know, we were wondering at the beginning of the season, like, how many of these guys have the endurance to start every five days for an entire fucking season? No one's done it yet. So, I mean, just the fact that they've hung on this long, I think is promising. And I mean, I'm saying they're hot and they're tired.
SPEAKER_00Like, yeah, I mean, everybody, everybody's pitcher is hot and tired, right? That's why these games have such high scores. Well, it's like eight to twelve, three to five. Like everybody's everybody's scoring on everybody, everybody's gotten tired. That's true. So it's it is what it is. I think Dustin May worries me. I know he kind of got there's a really long rain delay. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01A couple weeks ago, one pitch. Then he got hit. I wonder how high do you think he rated that on the pain scale when they took him out of the getting hit in the scapula with the uh with the line drive. You want to get into this?

SPEAKER_01I mean, otherwise it feels like an inside joke.
SPEAKER_00How about you fill people in on the on what you're referencing?
SPEAKER_01Well, we were talking, you you told me that you had heard that okay, when you go to the doctor at for pain, if you're experiencing any kind of pain, they ask you on a scale of one to ten what is your pain. And we learned recently that men will typically, and men, you can let us know if we're men, please let us know we're wrong. No, don't. But the men will typically pick a number like like 10 is the worst pain they've experienced. Whereas for women, it's 10 is the worst pain we can imagine. So like a 10 for me would be like dogs are ripping my body apart, like I'm being mauled to death by a dog.
SPEAKER_00That's a 10. For me, it's like my body, like I'm on fire. I've seen it constantly combusted. Yeah, like I'm on fire. Right. You know, but getting hit by a truck, yeah. Like yeah, or getting dragged. Yeah. But for a man, it's like that time I had kidney stones.
SPEAKER_01Like that's most they always they always want to tell you how it hurts as bad as childbirth.
SPEAKER_00It's like, eh, are you sure about that?
SPEAKER_01I heard no, I heard it's as painful as childbirth.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's the thing though. If you're like, we don't we didn't realize that we're measuring this on different scales, and I don't think there's one scale that's more or less legit than the other one. It's just interesting that that's how in general, hashtag not all men, just fuck off. And like that's how people excuse like how they think of it. Right. You know what I mean? Like men in general seem to think of it in reference to themselves. Women in general seem to think of it in reference to other people.
SPEAKER_01Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. You know, like 60%.
SPEAKER_00We're still talking about pans or guys.
SPEAKER_01All I know is that I heard JL say on the broadcast that shin splints is the most excruciatingly painful thing imaginable. Imaginable. 10 shin splints is a 10 because that's the earliest pain he can imagine. Well, he didn't say it was a 10, but he did say it was the worst pain imaginable because that's what um that's what uh Jake Bowers has been dealing with.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I mean, he he is a little hyperbolic.

SPEAKER_00A little bit, but anyway, so that's what you're referencing. I don't know what the pain score was for Dustin May. Getting hit with that line trapped for probably like a nine. But but yeah, I feel like I feel like he hasn't gotten a fair shake yet, and it might be too late for him to have one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm you know what? I am on a personal level feeling the same way about Cinza Tella. Like that's how I I'm like, oh, this guy. And even though the last two times he's been he's pitched, he's been great. But like because of the the first two, I was like, mmm. But May looked really good before that rain delay. Like he's like, I think he gave up a run in the first inning, but whatever. That that ended up being a a pretty high-scoring game. But like after that, he was dialed until that fucking rain delay, and they had to take him out.
SPEAKER_00Was he? I thought it was a rough game. Maybe I'm not remembering the right one.
SPEAKER_01It was like the first inning was bad, and then he was good. But he only got to go four because then they they shut it down. The one before that, he was pretty bad. Yeah, it just hasn't that was the trade deadline acquisition. We've only got him for the rest of the month and October, like you know, so for that to be the thing is sort of like oh really.
SPEAKER_00These veteran pitchers that we get, they're not working. Like they get injured. That's you know, we have like a Dallas Keichel from last year. We had Nestor Cortez, who never panned out. We had Jordan Montgomery, who I don't even think we saw play.
SPEAKER_01I know, he was supposed to be good.
SPEAKER_00Uh I think this is just a pattern, right? Like, we no, maybe we need a different approach. You're maybe too old to be here. Oh, it's so bad. But I don't know. I I'm wondering about the rotation, especially in the postseason, because we I mean we have our top two, and for a while I was like, Oh, we're set. Are we gonna do five men or six men? And now I'm like and now I'm like wondering who is three, and I think I know who I would want it to be, but I don't know who it's gonna be.
SPEAKER_01Well, then you saw who got brought up today, who got called back up today. Who's that? Spro. Oh yeah, Spro got called up.
SPEAKER_00I'm like, what's the plan? Oh boy, what's the plan? We'll see him. I can see Drohan going to the bullpen for a while. Bullpen's been working hard, man, because starting has been what it is. So I think they'll he'll shift some things around, but I don't know. It's it's not a fun place to be in as a team who relies on star pitching.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely have totally. It's scary going into September being being not sure of what we're looking at because that's what we need to be sure of that.
SPEAKER_00But Jacob Mizrowski is not somebody I'm worried about at all. I'm not either. He's gonna win the Cy Young unless something drastic happens. Yeah, he will. I'm not worried about it.
SPEAKER_01So he has been complaining quite a bit about the mounds at visiting ballparks. So we can we I know when he played in Anaheim, he fucking hate, he was like, had nothing good to say about it. He's like the worst mound I've ever played on. It was absolutely terrible. There was another day where he had a lot of like mud in his cleats, and um he was complaining the other day. So, so here's my question: is he a really big diva about the mound or are they fucking with us?
SPEAKER_00I think his release point where his foot lands is so much farther out than any other pitchers that it's not for the brewers, they've been like packing that part of the mound all since so he's used to it at home, that being packed, but other pitchers' foot doesn't hit that. They don't go that far. They don't go that far. And I do think there may be like a little bit of fuckery with it, like the other teams. I wouldn't put it past him because Miz, he's been complaining about the mound. I think the last time I the first time I heard him was against the Reds last year. He was like, What the fuck is this mound? It's really okay. So yes, and that the Cubs mound, would I put it past the Cubs to just like fuck with it? No, I would not. But I think for him, he can he can ask for the mound to be adjusted anytime he wants, and he did like pitch off of the mound pre-game. That's right. To practice, and then he had it adjusted a little bit, and it's not the same because it got like pack it during the game or whatever. But I think it's not it's not a dominance and a command thing for him. Also, it's a safety issue because his foot needs to land in a place that's not gonna cause him injury. So is he a diva? I don't know. Maybe he just doesn't want to fucking twist his knee.
SPEAKER_01I'm not okay. For the record, I'm not I'm not accusing him of being a diva. How dare you? I figured we could go two ways. I could say, all right, he's being this, or or we are we could really conspiracy theorize and say that people are sabotaging their mounds for the or is it both?
SPEAKER_00Let's flip with the diva. No, but I was looking at the I was looking at the CBA because somebody had said he can ask for the mound to get fixed anytime he wants, like during in between every pitch he can if he wants to. And I was like, that doesn't seem right. Let me check the CBA. And so I think I found maybe the CBA is so fucking long, but I think I maybe found the right part about like working conditions, right? Because the CBA doesn't actually govern the field or like anything, but it does govern working conditions. And if a pitcher thinks that a soft mound is creating a safety problem, they could have a grievance if it's not fixed.
SPEAKER_01I mean, and I feel like someone who throws as hard as Miz, it's a safety issue for both the pitcher and the the batter on the receiving end. I mean, if he if he is landing in a way that his pitches aren't consistent, yeah. I mean, we saw him hit somebody in the head earlier this year. That was fucking scary. Like I'm not gonna blame that on the mound, but like, you know, yeah, it is it's a health risk, it's a potential injury risk for both the batter and the pitcher.
SPEAKER_00It could be, it could be. But what I loved after that Cubs game that he pitched in, and he just that was his worst outing of the season by far, and I think he knew it. But what I loved about that game was how hype he was after the fourth inning. Like, even though he knew he had a shitty game, he was so stoked to what did he strike out PCA? Yeah, right, and he was so and he was like, and I was like, let's go, boys, let's do a fucking riled up. And I think that made the difference because he could have came off that mound and been like, yeah, you're right. Sorry, guys, I'm sorry, but he didn't. He was like, I fucking struck out PCA. He's two for 29 with the brewers right now. Let's fucking go.
SPEAKER_01That's awesome. I love his whole approach. I was I was listening to some interview with him, and he was talking about how they asked him, like, when you get in your head, like when you get in the zone, and he's like, when I go out there to pitch. They're like, not before he's like, no, beforehand, I'm just hanging out, and they're like, People can talk to you. He's like, Yeah, he's like, I don't start trying to get myself into that until I'm there. And he said before, he's like, I'm just throwing a Gary, you know, like he's he's really he's just so laid back about it, and I love I love that. I mean, I like an intense, I mean, like, Max Scherzer is one of my favorite players ever, and like his intensity is one of the things that I love about him because it's like so absurd, you know. But on the on the other end of it, it's it's really nice.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Scherzer's also earned his intensity, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's true, you know.
SPEAKER_00Like if Miz was intense like Scherzer, I'd be like, what an asshole. Yeah, that's true, that's true. But yeah, it's it's really nice. And I really do think that that kind of attitude totally makes makes a difference because I think you're right. Guys could have been like, oh no, won't won't walk. But yeah, it was awesome.
SPEAKER_01I think you're totally right. That's that power of friendship thing. That's that vibes thing. The vibes that we need, we need the vibes. Man, that Cub series was wild. In Chang that fucking uh Jojo Romero came out to pitch for the first time for us. Yeah, and in the same inning, we had Pratt Ortiz and Churio collide.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, three-way bang.
SPEAKER_01Which is like, what the fuck? And then like the next play, Bryce Tarang had to play it second, but instead he did this insane flip move and tried to throw it to first. And uh in the group chat, I think it was Matt was like from here. I was probably like, who the fuck are these guys? Like, what do we that whole game was like a blooper reel. We could set some music to it. I can't believe nobody called that that ball, and all three of them ran into each other. I was like, I think that was Pratt's ball.
SPEAKER_00I think it's trio really ran up on it. I love that Coop was like my bad to Jackson afterwards. That was nice. I was like, oh my gosh, he's very like very thoughtful and sweet. That was nice. He could have been a dick about that, but he wasn't. So I don't know. That was a ugh. I did not like watching that game.
SPEAKER_01I ugh no. And when he came up grabbing his wrist, I was like, no, like if that's the thing, yeah, this is the thing that causes the injury, I'm gonna be so fucking mad. He was clearly very alert. Yeah, he's the one who like got up and realized the ball was still under him, too, and made the made the throw anyway, you know. I mean they all laid on the ground there for a minute, like that was scary.
SPEAKER_00He was almost in tears. God. I look like took his hat off and everything. Yeah. It was scary. Yeah. But he's okay. Yeah, that one sucked. So after the Cubs, we played the Reds in Cincinnati. And everybody I think expected Brew to take it because we've taken what every series from the Reds for the last since like 2002.
SPEAKER_01Not too since like no, since like 2022. Something like 14 years. No, no, no. But we yeah, I think it was 2022 is the last time we lost the series to the Mets or to the Reds, I mean, at home.
SPEAKER_00What did you make of that third game?
SPEAKER_01Um, I didn't watch it because that was yesterday, and I was in Baltimore watching the Orioles during that game. Oh yeah. I didn't, um, I didn't. I was looking at the score, and I was like, I'm not gonna watch this later. And I was getting all the angry text messages in the group chat. So I was like, you know what? I'm not gonna watch this one.
SPEAKER_00Well, I have a conspiracy theory to run by you about this last Reds game. Okay. You know how the Brewers tend to freak out in the postseason? Yes. It's like in general, they mentally flip out, uh, and they're doing so hot right now, and like the Reds series is usually a lock for them. I was thinking, did Pat Murphy perhaps set this lineup to make them more likely to lose on purpose so that they could feel this like shit. How do we let this happen? Feeling right now, so that he could give them some sort of motivational speech and use it to build them up for the postseason.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I didn't even look at the lineup.
SPEAKER_00I didn't realize the Naylor caught yesterday. Yeah, Naylor was in. Uh Hamilton was out. Yep. Hmm. Harrison was all sweaty on the mound. I know Murph says every game counts, like one game at a time. Win tonight.
SPEAKER_01Right, but I also know that we have seen the throwaway Sunday B team move pulled very often, but it's usually when the series is already won, you know. Like if you win the first two, we usually get Sunday B team.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But not typically in a rubber match situation.
SPEAKER_00So and I don't know if this is a B team as much as it is like uh Contreras needs a day off before we play the Cubs. Sure. Sort of thing. And maybe Ortiz does too. Although I was like, why isn't Joey Ortiz in this lineup? Because I don't want I don't want Pat Murphy be playing this righty lefty matchup thing because it's stupid, and we've talked about it.
SPEAKER_01It is stupid, and I I've been tired of it ever since he was every day that Vaughn wasn't in the lineup was pissing me off. And I'm like, I know that Bowers needs to be in, but like, I don't know. We need them both.
SPEAKER_00The matchup game thing has to end. Like, I was a couple of weeks ago, Joey Vado was on the MLB network and he was asked about PCA's historic season, which is great. Bully for him. And he said something, he's like, you know, every batter should be taking pitches off of the T, which PCA does. He takes a lot of pitches off the T, I guess, and like coach pitch or whatever. But he said, really, the only thing that gets you better is taking A-Bs. Like you have to have reps at the plate. That's really the only thing that gets you better. And so if you want Joey Ortiz to be better against a lefty, play him against a lefty. Right. Like give him the reps that he needs. Totally. That's so just it seems we talked about this last season. It just seems so counterintuitive to be like, he's not good at this yet. I'm not gonna let him do it.
SPEAKER_01It's wild how much because council did it too, how much they adhere to that lefty-righty matchup rule. Yeah. That it like they won't deviate from that.
SPEAKER_00I'm like they do, but very rarely.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you know, it's like, can we play the guy that had two hits last night and scored a run? Or can we play the guy that got an RBI last night, or why are we sitting him just because of the hint, the handedness of the pitcher? You know what I mean? Yeah. And like Vaughn is a lefty killer, but like he we've seen him get clutch hits off of righties, too. I mean, let him let him see the ball, you know. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I don't want that to be the thing for the postseason, but I think that's probably why that's probably why the lineup is what it is yesterday for the Red Series. But also Murph, he had Harrison in there. He left them in the in a little bit longer than I thought he would. And I know the bullpen is taxed and about to be taxed, and so Harrison just had to eat some innings. But I also think Murph knew what kind of mental state Harrison was going into this game. Okay, and maybe didn't set him up for success as best as he could with the lineup that he had. So I don't think it was like a just this game win every game sort of thing. I know I feel like Pat Murphy would say, Well, all these guys are professional ball players, you're all supposed to be able to play ball, which is fine. But can't you see him being like, secretly, I'm gonna use this loss. If they have a loss, I've already prepared the speech and I'm gonna like use it as a motivational tool. Yeah, for later. Or for the postseason, right? So that they feel this like sting of an easy what should have been a victory should have been in the post.
SPEAKER_01The Reds number, usually. Yeah, this is my conspiracy theory, huh? I don't know either. I mean, we've been we see Merc get cute with the lineup sometimes. That's what I say. He's getting cute about this, but why? I don't know why.

Like, that was really sweet and lovely. And like I remember that I remember him, I remember the game that he did that to Sal. He made the wrong throw and didn't hit the cutoff guy. And uh, you know, we talked about that when that happened. Like, okay, is like this tough love? I'm benching you because you fucked up. And man, has has Cooper been fucking hustling down the line, man. For sure. He's fast as fuck these days. So I mean for sure. And maybe maybe he did need it, you know.
SPEAKER_00That whole thing amped him up. Since Murph pulled him, he's batten 308. I guess. He's got an 875 OPS. Before that, it was like 260 something. Yeah. So whatever it was, I think it worked. And what I loved about it is people were like, Oh, why don't you bench Yeli or bench Contreras if they're doing that? Well, because they've probably learned this lesson already. Yeah. Because they've been playing for a long time. This isn't their their 80th game. Yeah, it's not gonna have the same, it's not gonna have the same impact. Right. Right, it's fine. Did you watch Pratt in the postgame, his interview, or like what he said about it afterwards? I watched it, but I don't remember. Okay. So long ago. I really did like that it was Sal and Joey Ortiz and all the guys, like they went and they were talking to him in the dugout, and because he looked pissed. He really did look mad. But in the postgame, they were like, What's going on with that? And he said, That was my mistake. I should have hustled. That's how we play Brewer's ball. I know how this team plays, and I didn't play the way that we play in order to win ball games. So like I didn't, I wasn't there for the team. And he said, It was my mistake, and I can tell you what, it won't happen again. And he just owned it and was like really gracious about it. And I was like, I love you. I love Cooper Pratt. And you know what I did, Aaron? My child, who is a really big baseball fan, loves the Brewers, and is almost six years old, and is having like a hard time right now owning up to mistakes or admitting mistakes or saying that he did something wrong, right? I showed him that video. I was like, watch Cooper Pratt. I was like, Pat Murphy benched him, watch his reaction afterwards, and we watched the video, and ever since then, he's been fine to be like, Oh, I did this wrong. To admit a mistake and yeah, own it. I was like, look, Cooper Pratt does it, he's a professional baseball player. It's it's fine to own your mistakes, yeah, and be self-reflective about them. And now he has been at home.

SPEAKER_01And I guess I guess we we've been thinking for many seasons that the solution that is to have a big cleanup bat, which we haven't really had, except for in like a Jake Bowers, that's been our been our big bat, you know. But I'm looking, you know, I went and saw the Nas play a couple weeks ago and looking at CJ Abrams 29 home runs, like, god damn it. Like, yeah, can we can we have that, please? Can we get that? Would have been nice.

I I do feel like we can win postseason baseball the way that we're playing if they are able to keep this hustle up. I really do. And I I don't know if I felt like that last year. Last year I was still kind of like, uh, we needed Andrew Monasterio to bring us over in a pinch, you know, like wishy washy, but I don't feel that way about anybody on this team.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna ask you what you thought. Like this team this year is like the best. Does it feel like a better team than last year to you? Because just straight up on like number of games won, we're we're only like one ahead, you know, of where we were last year. Like, maybe more. I mean, don't quote me on that, but it's like we're slightly better. But I'm like, does this feel like a does this really feel like a better team than the team we had last year? Or like, how do you how do you feel like going into October with the guys who are on the field now compared to the guys we had on the field last year in September?
SPEAKER_00Do you know what I think is that last year they were really fun to watch off the field? You could see it like, you know, they went to the Packers game together, they're goofy, and it definitely sh we talked about how it shone through in on the field. This year, I have more fun watching them on the field.

SPEAKER_00And off the field. I mean, I don't run, I don't know their antics off the field this year. They're not doing that sort of thing. I do think this is a team, maybe that's not taking it more seriously, but is more deeper grounded into the way that the Brewers need to play to win. I miss some of the guys from last year. I really do. But and I do think that last year they were more of a tightly knit team, at least faster. This team, it feels like took a while longer than I thought it would for them to start gelling as a cohesive unit. But I I do think this team is the best team that we've seen in almost a decade, maybe over. Yeah. Is it better than the 2018? I don't know. Is it better than 2011?
SPEAKER_01It's it'd be hard to replace the 2011 team in my heart. I just I don't know. I don't know what it is about those guys. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's because like that's around the time that I became like a big fan.

SPEAKER_01So like the really sticks in my mind, but man. Yes, yeah. The the only thing that gives me pause about October is like again, same as last year. So we got three guys on the team who are 22 or younger. Like, we have the most guys on the team who are 22 or younger. We have people like Cooper Pratt and Luis Lara who Luis Lara, holy fuck, he is so good, and he's going to be like, imagine the player that he grows into if he's this good now. He's so incredible. But the kid has never played baseball in October before, and neither has Cooper Pratt, right? And it's just like to me, it's it's scary, again, going up against the juggernaut fucking Dodgers who have multiple World Series, not even appearances, but wins, multiple MVPs, multiple Cyang winner. Like, like October baseball is just part of the game for them. It's just another fucking day, it's another series, right? And for us, it's like every year, yeah, these guys are playing better maybe than the the guys were last year at this time. But again, we've we've replaced two brand new newbies with two more newbies who have even less experience. And that just it makes me. I don't want to be scared about October right now. I need to be excited about September because September is the best fucking time for baseball. But I'm like looking ahead, I'm like, I don't know, how are these guys gonna fare? You know, and can we do this year after year and expect them to ever fare well, you know? I don't know. That's my only thing.

He stopped the game to tell him to adjust his hat because his hat was a little askew, right? It was like a little down in the bottom. In the front, a little up in the back. It was yeah, yeah, you know, it was jauntily placed. It was fine, it was totally fine, and it was clear, it was like to me, it was an aesthetic look that was fine. And like people, some people have those aesthetics as it looks right fine on top of his head.

So like I love how how everyone has rallied around him, but it's like it's so fucking uncalled for. This is 2026. And then the other thing was he apologized. I don't know if it was the day over the next day, but he went he went and apologized. But this kid doesn't speak English either. And he didn't bring a translator with him. So he was like made to apologize, probably not even a real fucking apology. And he didn't even bring someone with him to translate his fake ass apology to this girl. Like it's it's so for show in the in the way that really what he's showing is I actually don't give a shit and I am not sorry. You know, this just don't even bother to do it, man.

SPEAKER_00Yeah, it wash. And I was just thinking, if I was an ump, I would want that number to be much, much higher. Like I get that it's average, and that's probably what it's gonna be. Each call is like, you know, 50-50. Sure. Sure. But it shouldn't be if you're an ump, because you should want that number to go much more your way. You know, they that is a that is a a stat of how you how well you are doing.
SPEAKER_01What's funny is they can't, the ump can decide if he wants to, he or she. They can call into the ABS guys like part way through the game and be like, hey, how's my how am I doing? Like it's a voluntary thing, but that's available to them. And so, like, if you notice an umpire's strike zone becoming better part way through the game, because they they can call up there and check in and get feedback and adjust. I think it needs to be mandatory instead of voluntary. Like, you if your strike zone is really fucking shitty and you're doing a bad job, I think ABS needs to call down and be like, dude, you're fucking this up. Like, you need to do better. Yeah. Because and I get like I've I've we've watched so many games that's like, okay, all right, that was clearly a ball, that was clearly a strike, but Kristen Yellow doesn't ever challenge, so he doesn't feel like challenging. And I I guess we're all gonna be okay with if this is what the strike zone is, which is what we've which is how we've approached it in the past up until this year, you know, like okay, if this is what the strike zone looks like today, I guess we all agree on that, and that's fine, and we still see a lot of that because we're not challenging every single ball or strike that's not quite correct. It's like, all right, well, you know, so if it's I suppose that the players are okay with it, like then there's no issue. But I mean, I feel like that whole last Cub series was really bad. I feel like the strike zone is really fucked up for like two or three of those games, and yes, it shouldn't be voluntary, it should be mandatory. This is the part where we each pick a non-brewers player that we're enjoying right now and talk about why. And I had to go back and really look to find out whose turn it was because we haven't done a fielder's choice in a few weeks. So, Lisa, it is your turn to go first.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it's my turn. Okay. I was gonna pick Ollie Marmal. I texted you and said we should both just pick Ollie Marmal. I didn't do that. My my fielder's choice this week is Ryan Jeffers, who is a catcher for the twins. He has been with the twins since 2021. He's had a few injuries here and there. He's got a he's got a fine bat, pretty decent. Uh, and then in May of this year, he fractured his hammate bone. At the beginning of the season, I called it the hamate. Remember? Right, right. It should be hamate, like sexies. It was ham eight. But it's ham eight, just like every other injured player who got injured in like April and May. Everybody had a hamate bone injury. Nobody had ever even heard of this bone before this season. There's some weird conspiracy happening. There's like the hamma bone doctors have done some. I don't know. It's weird. And a big ham a big right. Big uh so he he fractured it, he got injured, he came back in July, he's really struggled to regain his footing. But lately, he's on a really, really good hot streak in the last seven games. He's got four homers, 11 RBIs, seven runs. He's slugging eight eight five, slugging eight eight five, which is crazy. And two of those homers came in the same game against Detroit. He went two for three with four RBIs. And then Saturday they played the AL Central Division leaders, the Chicago White Sox. Boom. That's that's weird. Um, they were behind 3-0. Jeffers came up in the fifth, and he I'll send you this video if I remember. He crushed this homer, a three-run homer, like 400 and some feet to put the twins ahead. And it's just he's been so hot at the plate lately, and he's been productive in these high-leverage situations all season, super fun to watch. Byron Buxton's been out, so Jeffers has been in. You know, I love a catcher because I love a man with the thighs. He's got he's got great ones. Like so, uh, yeah, and I love the twins. Yeah, they're great. So Ryan Jeffers wins my fielder's choice this week. Awesome. I love that.
SPEAKER_01I also love the twins. All right, how about you? Who wins for you? My fielder's choice this week is Red Sox starting pitcher Peyton Toley. Um, if you're not familiar with this kid, he's a 23-year-old pitcher who went to Wichita State, which is my alma mater, by the way. He made his major league debut with the Boston Red Sox last August against Paul Skeens and his Pirates. Um, in that game, he threw eight strikeouts and five and a thirds inning, which is the most by a Red Sox pitcher in their debut game since 2007. He's having a really great season this year as well. He's got a 315 ERA and 159 strikeouts and 24 starts. I got to see him pitch yesterday in Baltimore, and he threw 12 strikeouts in six innings. Sounds very exciting. Red Sox fans and baseball fans love this kid because he's like clearly one of those players that you can tell loves the game. He's gotten attention a few times this year by doing some really cute stuff. A few weeks ago, they were playing the Mariners, and uh he scooped up a ground ball that got hit to him, and when he went to tag the runner, Kenzone, instead of tagging him, he gave him a hug for the out, which is pretty cute. Um, and then he also said after the game that they had never met before. So the first time he met him was uh hugging him for an out. I love that. Uh yesterday at the game I was at, he slipped on the mound after throwing a pitch. So he did a couple of push-ups before he got up.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you got to see that in person. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I love that. Uh so he's really cute and fun and just like endearing and lovely. And um he he lost his mom to cancer in 2004, and so he pays tribute to her a lot um in a few different ways. Uh, on his debut game, they left a seat open for her at Finway on the day on that day. Um, and then sometimes he'll walk out to the song Mother by Danzig. And then he has an inscription in his glove that says, You're so pretty, because apparently, when he was in high school during games, she would yell that at him to embarrass him. Yeah. So uh, so you know, great player, awesome pitcher, so fun to watch, lovable goofy, like just one of those guys that you that you just love to see. And he has this amazing Ron Swanson look, looks like Ron Swanson's got the mustache and everything. So yeah. I love that. He's lovely.
SPEAKER_00When I saw him do those push-ups and get back up, I thought two things. I thought of Brent Suter. Yes. It doesn't take much to make me think of Brent Suter, but I thought of Brent Sudden. And then I also thought this man is a brewer. Yeah. That dude, that dude is a Milwaukee player for sure. Looks just like him.
SPEAKER_01He's so he's so cute and funny. Like he does not look like he's 23. You've seen this picture, right?
SPEAKER_00No, he looks like he looks like he looks like he's got an uncle who hates dub airs. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, good choice. It was cool. It was it was very cool. I had a I had a super fun time at the at the Orioles game should be. I will never I forgot that Pete Alonzo is a Oriol. I will never forgive him. Uh booing him every uh bet. I'll never forgive that man. Good anyway. Oh, and I got to see Araldis Chapman's 400th career save. That's cool. That's fucking cool. It was yeah, it was great. Good game. You've been in Canada before, right? Yeah, this is like my third time. And I'm gonna go in a couple weeks because the brewers are gonna be there in a couple weeks. So yeah, I will go then as well. It's like a 45-minute drive to Baltimore, which is about as long as it takes to ride the metro from my house to Nat's Park. So it's like oh, it's the same. So I should go to Baltimore more.

SPEAKER_00All right, let's move on to the sausage race where we each pick a Milwaukee player that we're digging. And Aaron, you start, I guess, this time.
SPEAKER_01Yes, my sausage race winner this week is Abner Uribe. Uh, he's back. I have never seen him smile so much. He's been dominant. He hasn't given up a run in like 25 innings. I think the last time he gave up a run was like June 19th or something like that. I know he's been he's been out with an injury, so but like this dude is dominant, he's incredible. Every outing, every inning that he pitches is just like I'm I'm glued to the screen. Like, he's he's so amazing to watch. The uh Timberellers, uh bratz jersey. We got to see him pitch in that. Like, it's so silly, but so amazing. I like Brewer's Twitter was insane over that.
SPEAKER_00Like, everybody always looks silly in it, and he looked so good in it. He looks so common. Like, oh my god, never seen anybody actually like look attractive.
SPEAKER_01Like, oh, this dorks they look so stupid. This is so okay, German pitcher Evner Yulribe. But he's been incredible and he's been so amazing to watch pitching, and then just like the smiles, dude. And then today he's in the dugout, like up on the railing, doing this, like smiling, cheering. I mean, he just you can tell he's so happy to be back. And man, we need that uh Ashby Aribe McGill 1, 2, 3, like having him back in there. Uh, it's just it's great. So I've yeah, that's my pick, Abner.
SPEAKER_00You are so right about the smiles, too. I've been noticing that too. He's really in it, he's having so much fun. He's been smiling a lot more. Yeah, yeah. Great choice. Oh, Abner.
SPEAKER_01I know he's he's fun killing it. I love that guy. Yeah, all right. Who wins your sausage race winner this week?
SPEAKER_00My sausage race winner this week is who I think we should put third in rotation, and that is Robert Gasser. So we all saw Gas. Do they call him Bobby? They might call him Bobby. Saw Bobby Gas uh get pulled against that against the Mariners after a really rough start. Pat Murphy said like he was a little too emotional. Pat Pat Murphy was emotional too emotional when he made that call. So he like made it out of emotion. And then one of the next games that he pitched, not the next game, but uh next game that he pitched was against the Cubs, and he was struggling a little bit there, not so much, but Murphy went up to him on the mound and he didn't yell at him. He was like, Hey, you are a really good pitcher, and you can do this. And Gasser said afterwards, he's like, that meant everything to me to have Murphy tell me that in that moment meant everything. And ever since then, he's been killing it, dude. And I he's been for me, he's been pretty good all season. Like, we have to remember that he struck out seven against the Dodgers in early August. He's when he's good, he's really, really, really good. When he's bad, he's not fun to watch. But do you remember when he was first supposed to come up? He was supposed to be like this wonder kid. We were all really excited to watch him play, and then he got hurt. Yep. I I saw him that day. I remember that. I was downtown and I was wearing my a Brewers jersey, and I was walking by the hotel that they put up players in, and he walked out. And I I didn't mean to be walking by that hotel, it's just like where I had to, I wasn't being a stalker, anything. But he walked out, and like we just kind of looked at each other, and I was like, I can't say anything. So I just walked away, you know, as one does. But he he looked so young when I saw him that day, and he does not look young anymore. We're like, I feel like we're watching him grow up physically and mentally, just like we do. With Ms. last year. Okay, sure. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like Miz had these mental struggles, and he looked like a kid last year. And he came back and he's like not a kid anymore. He's got his mental game down for the most part. And I feel like this is right on the cusp of where Robert Gasser is. And he killed today. He had five strikes, one walk. He didn't have a lot of contact. And bonus, he hit PCA. Yes, he did. I mean, I think it it shook him a little bit, right? But like his fastball is on point. He's got he's got his like cutter going now. He's starting to be more aggressive in the count. They've won eight out of nine of his last starts. Yeah. Like, and I think that I think this this like is gonna continue now that Murph's given him this confidence boost. I think this is about Pat Murphy understanding his players and what they need. Like, you know, you pull Sal and you give him tough love and he needs that. And you do that with Cooper Pratt and you humble Cooper Pratt and he needs that. And you give somebody like Robert Gasser the confidence that he needs on the mound, and you you treat him differently than you would treat other guys. And then I think Kat Murphy kind of understands how that's going. But I really, really like Robert Gasser. I've liked him a lot this year. I've always been bummed when he's had pretty rough starts. But I think he's he for me, he passes the eye test in a lot of ways. And I think he's a much, much, much better pitcher and has much better potential than anything on any sort of like stat book. So he wins my sausage race.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I like that a lot. I think you're right. I mean, we've seen at the beginning of the year it was Ms. Henderson, Harrison, and then we had Woody for a minute in the rotation as well. And so it's like, okay, where do you fit people like Drawn and Gasser? And then how do they stack up against these big names and like you know, amazing pictures? But we I feel like we've seen a steady, yeah, we've seen like steady growth from Gasser since the beginning of the year. And I'm um I feel like I used to see his name on the preview of who's gonna pitch today or tomorrow and be like, oh fuck. But now I'm like, all right, yeah, we got this. This is gonna be fine, you know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I think I'm into it. I mean, I think he half of the games he's pitched this year, he's gotten five or more strikeouts. That's awesome. That's great. And he's got his command is going down. I really, really like him, and I think if he gets confidence and maybe a little bit more cocky, he could like not too much. He could be really, really good.
SPEAKER_01Awesome! Two pitchers! Two pitchers for our sausage race winners this time around. I know as much as we were complaining about well, maybe I was complaining about pitching earlier.
SPEAKER_00Well, I think maybe when you have a good pitcher, you want to elevate them. And also, we don't do pitchers that much, and we also probably both had some runner-ups. Yeah, like Luis Laura was definitely a runner-up for me. Uh I had another pitcher as a runner-up, though. Trevor McGill was my runner-up. Oh, yeah, also Trevor. So maybe we're not as worried about pitching as we think we are.
SPEAKER_01No. We got this. Yeah. All right. Well, I think that takes us into next week's lineup. And by next week, let's just talk about the rest of the season because there's not that much left. I cannot believe it. We got a lot of divisional play to close out the regular season. The Brewers are finishing up uh their final series against the Cubs, having secured the season series earlier today with that win. So that's great news. Um, they're gonna get a much needed day off on Thursday before they host the Reds over the weekend. So we'll see the Reds again. And then after that, they'll be on the road to face the Pirates. So a lot of divisional play, and then they'll see the Orioles and then the Phillies, and then they're gonna close out the regular season at home against the Cardinals.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's a lot of division play. Yeah, I'm really interested to see this matchup against the Phillies.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh, because that could be a that could be a preview.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I hope it's a preview.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say, I don't want to play the Cubs. Like I don't want to play the Cubs. I'm sick of their little faces everywhere. Although, although I don't know the broadcast, I don't know if this is the broadcast for like when it's national TV and the Cubs play it, but whenever the Brewers play the Cubs, the Brewers broadcast does such a good job of zooming in on Craig Council's exasperation.
SPEAKER_01Today he just like like came up and looked and then just did this and turned and walked back down the steps, like taking his hat up, running his fingers through his hair, like, oh god. Man, also I wonder if that is just a brewer's broadcast thing because it is so fucking funny.
SPEAKER_00It's really funny. I try to capture it and put it on Twitter every time I see him. Just like he's just like, what the fuck? But also, he had there was one game where he was wearing his like glasses, you know, when they were down like Santa, like and he was looking at something, and the announcers, I think it was BA. It was BA was talking about just talking so much shit, just calling Craig Counsel an old man and just like would not let it go.
SPEAKER_01Managing this club really ages you, like and I was like, is this younger than they are?
SPEAKER_00Is this BA just knowing his audience so well and knowing how we'd respond to this, or does he feel this way too?
SPEAKER_02That's so funny.
SPEAKER_00I don't care because I was here for it. It was so fucking funny. Hilarious, man. They're so good. I love BA, he's a treasure to me. It was really delightful. Yeah. Speaking of the announcers, do you listen to any of the radio games? Like, do you ever hear I do sometimes? Do you ever hear when they do their ads for adult diapers? Yes. They're so good at segueing into diapers. You need relief. Oh, we got a relief picture coming in. You can rely on adult diapers. You really made a mess of things out there.
SPEAKER_01No, man, I've been saying this for years. Our broadcasters are we are spoiled, dude. We have the best. The best.
SPEAKER_00We really do. It's so funny. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Well, I think that probably does it for us. I don't know if how much of this you're gonna have to cut out.
